Fibers
There are essentially two ways to engineer Flame Resistant Fabric:
- Start with Inherently Flame Resistant Fibers, (like Nomex®, Lenzing FR®, etc.), and knit or weave them into fabric.
- Start with NON-Flame Resistant Fibers, (like Cotton or Nylon, etc.), and knit or weave them into fabric. Then chemically treat the fabric to make it flame resistant. ..e.g. Pro-CFR™ by SSM.
Most companies do one or the other to make their fabric flame resistant.
